Vancouver Downtown Counselling

What do you enjoy most as a counsellor?

As a counsellor, my reward is that I witness positive change after teamwork with my client, like lower depression and anxiety. Sometimes, I feel inspired and touched by my clients when they talk about their dreams and strengths. I had an opportunity to work with diversified clients, learning more about society and social inequality. Some said I hear lots of sadness, grief, dark and grey sides. I saw how deep the family and past had shaped us. I witnessed their struggles, ups and downs, courage. I was impressed by how strong, positive, and powerful they are despite life difficulties such as sickness, disability, and being a single parent.

It is a privilege to be like a mirror to see the before and after changes, being there with them, whether it was the first time break up, surgery, or lost loved ones🌹

What counselling service do you provide?

I provide online (video), phone and in-person, walking sessions outdoor, facilitate Culinary art group. I also offer the old fashion way of email therapy. I provide a great deal of flexibility to meet clients where they are. You are welcome to explore different ways. I offer individual, couple, premarital, family counselling, Music-Integrated therapy, and EMDR, all 50 minutes. Please note for an emergency like suicide or crisis intervention, please dial 911 or go to your local hospital!

How does Email Therapy work?

Email therapy slows the process down, giving more time for clients to reflect on thoughts. I strongly suggest you invest some time in writing your email. What you write is important! It is helpful to imagine that we sit together as you write. I would like to know how you feel as you write. It is helpful for deep commutation. Please note that online communication is by its very nature subject to hacking and is not always secure, so be mindful about what you write.

The Couple, premarital counselling

People spend lots of money on wedding planning, but how much resource is spent on nourishing the relationship? Divorce and separation can be costly$ financially and emotionally. It is helpful to put premarital counselling on your list and talk about things openly instead of hoping your partner will change. Like many other things, a high-quality, fulfilled relationship takes time and effort to keep it in good shape.

EMDR Explained

How might I benefit from EMDR?

EMDR is helpful for those situations when you just can’t "let it go". EMDR has been extensively researched and has been shown to reduce symptoms in many mental health-related concerns, especially PTSD. Prince Harry speaks openly about mental health challenges and his experience with EMDR therapy while working toward healing.

EMDR can be used in addition to regular talk therapy, or as therapy on it’s own. Initial EMDR sessions are conducted like any other therapy session. You will explore goals of therapy, history, level of coping, and together, come up with a plan moving forward. During sessions, the therapist will use bilateral stimulation. You do not need to give details about traumatic events if you do not want to share.

What happens during the EMDR session?

Your therapist will use their figures, pen, or other devices to stimulate bilateral movement in the brain. This can be done through the use of the eyes (via watching the therapist or device move in front of the eyes) or tapping. The process is used to create new thought patterns in the brain.

How can I prepare for EMDR?

Please consult with your doctor and let me know if you have medical issues like Eye issues, e.g., surgeries, tracking, we will use tapping. It is ok to wear glasses and it is ok to do it remotely.  b. Epilepsy -we will use tapping c. Pregnancy. d. Medication, some medications might affect brain do the job.

Please have a good rest and sleep before the session. Please avoid substance use like alcohol right before and after sessions. You might have some dreams after sessions. The processing might continue after the session. Please practice self-care and avoid making significant decisions right after.

What if I already have a therapist?

If you already have a therapist and it has been suggested that you do some EMDR sessions, your therapist will work with you to target the issues that have been identified with your current therapist.
